Sunny Day Therapy’s occupational therapy can help clients across the lifespan (including pediatrics and the perinatal population) strengthen and regulate muscles throughout the body to improve management of bowel and bladder control. If bedwetting or leaking is an issue for you or your child, there are exercises and habits to help you get control of your muscles and relax when you are in public settings. We use a holistic approach to assess reflexes, strength, and daily habits. Our tools include both top down strategies like body work and relaxation strategies as well as bottom up solutions such as strengthening specific muscle groups and understanding how muscles are connected in a kinetic chain across the body. Positioning, environmental modifications, time management solutions, and planning can all help alleviate symptoms associated with accidents. No child or person deserves to have accidents in front of their peers. From the mental side, we can help your child (or you as the parent) understand the biology of what is going on with your body and help you regain control over your muscles and your environment. Sleep better, rest, and get done the activities you want knowing that help is there. In many countries, pelvic floor treatment for mothers after birth is standard. We understand that you and your child deserve the best. From self care to mental health to physical/mental strengthening to sensory strategies, occupational therapy targets assessing your challenges, understanding your lifestyle, and growing your strengths. Toileting is one of the areas in the occupational therapy framework; we know that bowel and bladder control affects other areas such as socialization and mental health. If your child is just learning to use the potty we are happy to help support you on the journey. If your child is bedwetting or having accidents in public or if you as a new parent are experiencing leakage and need some strengthening, our approach is holistic and we are prepared to address issues across the lifespan.
