“TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood”
Robert Frost speaks of two paths emerging and him being able to only take one path. Often we must make firm decisions – to go this way or that. Yet, often we have the opportunity to study multiple ways of thinking, to turn around, and to take both paths. I am a person who wants to take both paths and “make more tracks than necessary” (Wendell Berry). Wherever I must go to learn… that is where I want to be.
I am a huge fan of divergent thinking. I believe that flexibility is improtant for psychological health as well as for developing empathy and solving problems. “A rose is a rose is a rose.” Not! I believe the rose can be and should be many different things to eye of the beholder.
Today, I challenge myself to cultivate my creativity, to not be stuck on one way of doing something, or to even be lost in just one passion. As Jack Johnson would say, “I want to turn the whole world upside down.” I want to see the world from different perspectives and consider all of life’s questions as well as answers.
“Readers are plentiful, thinkers are rare!”
“Be like the fox
who makes more tracks than necessary,
some in the wrong direction.
Practice resurrection.” – Wendell Berry, Manifesto,The Mad Farmer Liberation Front
Happy thinking! Remember the best thoughts can emerge from unexpected places.
